Qualifications Scotland – Results & Appeals
With the 2025/26 session coming to an end, I would like to highlight some key dates with you regarding exam results and appeals.
Results Day
Results day is Tuesday 4th August 2026. Pupils must sign up to My Qualifications Scotland by 5pm on Wednesday 15th July in order to receive their results by email and/or text as well as by post. It is highly recommended to do so in case there is an issue with post on the day. Pupils should access the Qualifications Scotland website to sign up.
Appeals
If pupils have concerns about a grade (or grades) on their results certificate, they can use the free appeals service. Pupils can appeal directly with Qualifications Scotland or ask school to do this for them.
Pupils should only appeal if they believe a mistake has been made in the external marking of your work. If they do appeal their grade, a senior marker will carry out a marking review of their Qualifications Scotland-marked assessments. This means that they’ll review your answers to all questions and assignments marked by Qualifications Scotland. They check that the marks awarded by the original marker are in line with the marking standards agreed at the markers’ briefing and the marking instructions. In addition, they also check that:
all parts of your Qualifications Scotland assessments have been marked;
the marks given for each answer have been added correctly; and
the correct result has been entered on our system.
Please note that after being reviewed, the result could stay the same, go up or go down. It is advised that pupils who wish to use the appeals service should discuss this with their teacher before going ahead on their return to school in August.
The appeals service will open on results day, Tuesday 4 August at 9 am, and the learner direct submission deadlines are:
Tuesday 11 August at 11.59 pm for priority appeals
Tuesday 25 August at 11.59 pm for all other appeals
If you appeal through your school, the deadlines are:
Thursday 20 August at 5 pm for priority appeals
Friday 28 August at 5 pm for all other appeals
Priority appeal are only available if you have a conditional place at university or college, or in training or employment that depends on your grade.
Further information can be found on the Qualifications Scotland website and in the ‘You Results’ booklet attached.
Key dates for Senior Phase Courses and Qualifications.
It is essential that pupils are present for all SQA assessments and exams, SQA will not reschedule dates or extend deadlines to facilitate pupil absence. Consistent attendance is essential for success in terms 2 & 3, please keep this in mind if considering any non essential absence for the remainder of the session. Should a situation arise where your young person is unable to attend school or is likely to miss an assessment it is essential that you inform the school as soon as possible.
Ongoing Coursework & Deadlines
Senior Phase courses have a variety of compulsory coursework tasks. Teachers set deadlines to ensure coursework is completed on time and to allow staff to package work ready for SQA collection. Please encourage your young person to meet all deadlines, failure to do so may result in no marks awarded for elements of their course. NPA and Foundation Apprenticeship courses that do not have final exams have ongoing coursework, failure to complete required coursework will prevent pupils from passing these courses.
Qualifications Scotland Exam Diet
The Exam Diet is currently scheduled to run from Wednesday 22nd April until Monday 1st June. The full exam timetable has been published on the SQA website.
Pupils will be issued with personalised Exam timetables, it is essential that they follow these. Mintlaw Academy exam times may vary slightly from the published Qualifications Scotland timetable.
Practical Exams
Some practical exams take place out with the main Exam Diet, with assessors visiting the school on the day of examination. These exams take place during Term 3 (Jan-Apr) and occasionally into Term 4. Qualifications Scotland confirm specific dates later in the year. Failure to attend would result is no marks awarded for that element of the course and Qualifications Scotland are unable to reschedule any exams. Teachers will share specific dates with pupils when we have confirmation. Courses with practical exams include Drama, Music, PE courses, Practical Cookery, Practical Cake Craft and all Modern Languages courses.
